As the most prestigious night in fashion approaches, we're here to give you all you need to know in preparation. Year after year, fashion icons, celebrities, and New York's elite society members gather together on the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the beauty of fashion, known as the Met Gala. So let's dive right in, shall we?
Every year, audiences all over the world patiently await for their favorite fashion icons to hit the Met Gala carpet wearing something that extracts a whole lot of "oohs" and "aahs," and this year will be no different. With this year's theme being "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," a tribute to the late fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, we are all wondering how those who hit the carpet will honor his legacy. The great designer was best known as Chanel's creative director, hinting there will be a whole lot of the French fashion house design hitting the carpets, including vintage Lagerfeld pieces. However, Lagerfeld also became a household name when working for brands such as Balmain, Fendi, and Chloé, so we can expect to see those high-fashion labels dawning at the event as well.
As for the guest list? Well, sorry to disappoint, but the guest list is kept sealed shut until the night of the event. What we can share is this year's co-chairs of the event. In addition to Vogue's Anna Wintour, who has hosted the event since 1995, singer Dua Lipa, tennis player Roger Federer, actress Penélope Cruz and screenwriter Michaela Coel have been chosen. Last year's co-chairs were Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The co-chairs are tasked with selecting the evening's theme, curating the guest list, food, and décor, and of course, are expected to be the best dressed for the evening. They are also responsible for promoting, fundraising, publicizing, and hosting the event.
Sponsored
Although we are in it for the fashion, the charitable event fundraises for the Costume Institute through their sponsorships, donations, and ticket sales. A single ticket costs anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 per Page Six. What actually happens inside the Met Gala is kept secret, but according to Marie Claire, co-chairs seem to take the stage and even perform. Hello, Dua Lipa! And now we just patiently await for the biggest night in fashion to begin…
