Ever wondered how much your old toy cars from your childhood could be worth today? Well, it might be time to dig up your old collection - a vintage toy Batmobile has just sold for more than $147,000!
Following a bidding war at a sale held by Heritage Auctions, the red convertible toy car made ten times its estimated worth. Although it's not too common for toy cars to be worth as much, your old box full of Dinky Toys, Corgi, Matchbox and Hot Wheels vehicles could actually be a lot more valuable than you may think (we're talking hundreds, or possibly thousands of dollars). According to Louise Harker, from the Vectis auction house, which specializes in toys, "There is growing interest among baby boomers who want to own favorites from their childhood. Film and TV shows that have stood the test of time – such as Batman – add to the appeal, as a new generation of fans also gets interested in related merchandise. This increased demand pushes up prices of the limited number of surviving items."
Harker believes the six-figure price for the Batmobile was exceptional, since this vehicle could be the only one of its kind in that condition, and still in its original box. But the sale might boost the values of toy cars across the market. "Movie spin-off merchandise is doing well at the moment, with those who were brought up in the 1960s and 1970s harking back to a time when they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – such as playing with toy cars on the carpet," Harker explained. "But a collector is rarely satisfied with buying just one diecast model. What you tend to find is that when a better condition example of a favourite piece comes up for sale then they will snap this up as well. This is why we always recommend investing in the best quality car that you can afford. And if you can find one with original packaging this is best of all."

Not only that, but he also adds that the original box adds more value to the vintage toy cars. So what are you waiting for? Time to go through your old stuff!
