The rich and famous have always sought out second, third, and even fourth properties to add to their seemingly never-ending real estate portfolios. Many have homes across the world. A new trend has begun to surface and is turning a relatively low-key spot in Portugal into a celebrity haven.

Known for its wines and fresh food, Portugal has become a travel hot spot lately. Many travelers have opted to spend their vacations traversing through the coastline and countryside of the European country. From its stunning coastal views to its eye-catching architecture, there are plenty of reasons to head to Portugal. It has also been attracting many new homeowners. A string of celebrities has begun to add Portugal to their portfolios, with one beach town being the main attraction. Located 75 miles south of Lisbon is Comporta in the Alentejo region. It stretches across the Atlantic Ocean, and it feels like you are completely alone in nature. No wonder why buyers like designer Christian Louboutin and actress Sharon Stone have acquired homes in this small town.

There won’t be a downtown filled with designer boutiques or restaurants from the most famous chefs in the world. What celebs will find are locally owned shops selling housewares and clothing. They will be able to dine at local hotspots that are selling the freshest ingredients that are local to the region. Comporta offers a more subtle, quiet luxury. Mansions decked out with detached villas, pools, and acres of land are just a quick drive away from the quaint villages. The laidback beach town vibe has attracted plenty of interested buyers and developers. However, there are laws in place that are aiming to preserve the tranquil environment. Vitor Paiva, a license partner of Engel & Völkers Comporta, told Mansion Global, “It is also very common for new builds to be equipped with thatch to reflect the history of the traditional fishermen houses in Comporta.” Comporta has over 12 miles of beach, and the villages nearby are similar in aesthetic and feel.

As Portugal grows in popularity as a real estate hot spot, we are sure that more people will discover these romantic and relaxing beach towns. This is the perfect spot for those who are looking for a mix of high-quality luxury and a low-key lifestyle.
