It was the first Monday in May, which meant the most anticipated fashion event of the year happened. With the most prominent names gathering to honor the late designer Karl Lagerfeld at this year's Met Gala, here are the biggest trends to come out of the night.
The night's theme was "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," with the dress code stated as "in honor of Karl." His storied career influenced fashion in almost every way. Not only were his designs desired by many, but the designer himself was a fashion icon with his signature sunglasses, black jackets, and ponytail. Everyone took their own spin on the theme, honoring the legendary designer in different ways. One of the biggest trends of the night was bridal couture. Lagerfeld closed out every couture runway with a "Chanel bride," and stars like Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, and Rihanna honored this tradition. They donned all-white ensembles or even vintage pieces from previous Chanel collections as a homage to the Lagerfeld bride. While others decided to take inspiration from Lagerfeld's love of biological wonders. Attendees, like Lizzo and Phoebe Bridges, incorporated pearls into their looks. Met Gala stunner Kim Kardashian's custom Schiaparelli look was made using over 50,000 pearls.
Another Chanel mainstay became a trending item at the Met Gala – bows. Whether they were put into starlet's hair or incorporated into gowns, bows seemed to be everywhere. Actresses Sydney Sweeney, Nicole Kidman, and Emily Blunt all had bows as part of their outfits in honor of one of Lagerfeld's design favorites. While one of the main trends of the night was a more black-and-white look, which was consistent with Lagerfeld's personal style, one color stuck out from the rest. Many celebrity attendees wore pink when they did wear color on the red carpet. Ashley Graham, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss were just a few of the starlets that wore the Barbie-inspired color. However, most attendees stuck with the more traditional Chanel and Lagerfeld palette of black and white.
