The Met Gala is fashion's biggest night, and this year's theme has already been chosen. The theme for 2023 is set to honor the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. The night will be titled "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." Here's what we know so far.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Exhibition marks the opening night of the annual fashion exhibit. It is when the world's biggest stars, from supermodels to actresses to political figures, come dressed to stun in the most elegant and striking outfits that coincide with the designated theme. They can already begin their preparations to make their tribute to the German designer. Funnily enough, the designer who was one of the first designers chosen to co-chair the event alongside Anna Wintour was not the event's biggest fan. According to Andrew Bolton, who is the Costume Institute's Wendy Yu Curator in Charge, Lagerfeld believed that "Fashion is not art - fashion belongs on the street, on women's bodies, on men's bodies."

Lagerfeld's influence and impact on the fashion industry are unparalleled. He served as the creative director for Fendi for 54 years and was the creative director at Chanel for 36 years. He worked for both design houses up until he died in 2019. Additionally, he designed for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, and his very own brand, Karl Lagerfeld. The designer is as recognizable as his incredible fashion pieces, with his gray hair slicked back into a ponytail, black gloves, and black sunglasses. Bolton, who is leading the production for the exhibition, is focusing on a less traditional approach. Vogue reported that the exhibit will include approximately 150 original looks and will be displayed along with the original sketch done by Lagerfeld for them. It will also include video interviews, and architect Tadao Ando is designing the exhibit's interior.

Lagerfeld has inspired millions with his contributions to the fashion world, and his influence will continue to reign with this Met Gala theme. It will be a long and highly anticipated wait until the first Monday of May, when the next Met Ball will occur. As designers start sketching and creating designs for next year's show, we'll be waiting not so patiently for "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty." Stay tuned.
