Have you ever wished you could be paid to travel - all while you chill by the beach reading your favorite novel? Here's your chance! A luxurious resort located in the beautiful Maldives is looking for someone to move in and run their shops for an entire year. Here's how you can become the next 'barefoot bookseller.'
Soneva Fushi is popularly known for its lavish overwater villas that include a private slide that takes you straight into the ocean. Many A-list celebrities have stayed at the incredible destination, including John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, and Ed Westwick. Not to mention, the resort is where Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner had their honeymoon. But recently, people have been more focused on their advertisements for what they describe as "possibly the best job in the world." The job description read, "While most of us find holidays are the only opportunity we get to read for pleasure, finding the perfect book to enhance your destination and open your mind can be a challenge." It continued, "Previous barefoot booksellers have provided guests with unforgettable literary experiences from writer's workshops to personal reading consultations. We are interested to see what new ideas you can bring to the role."
Who wouldn't want to get to live in a high-end resort meeting new people every day while having access to beaches, pools, buffets, and more - all while working? We can't lie, this sounds too good to be true… but thankfully, it's not. Soneva Fushi's job advert explained, "The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for books and the ability to engage with guests of all ages. They will have excellent written and verbal English skills, a lively tone of voice to write an entertaining blog capturing the exhilarating life of a desert island bookseller, and the skills to host workshops and other guest experiences. They must have the ability to fit in with the distinctive Soneva culture."

For those interested in holding workshops and pop-up events, such as creative writing courses for guests, head on over to the barefootbookseller website. The job will begin in October 2022, and based on what the current barefoot bookseller, Georgie Polhill, has said, the job will be worth the trip over to the Maldives. Polhill said, "The best thing about working as Soneva Fushi's barefoot bookseller is the unpredictability. You never know what adventures a new week will bring."
